Job Summary
Under the direction of a radiologist, performs diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures utilizing gamma cameras and other related equipment. Prepares radiopharmaceuticals and performs quality control radiopharmaceuticals according to requirements and guidelines of the Radioactive Material License. Administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients via oral or IV injection routes, verifying patient identification and physician order to prevent misadministration of the isotope.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program approved by the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT).
Experience: Typically, 1 to 2 years of experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of Nuclear Medicine machines and related equipment. Knowledge of age specific needs of patients. Knowledge of Nuclear Medicine procedures. Skill in data input. Possess communication, collaboration, cooperation and interpersonal skills. Ability to study and identify physician requests for nuclear medicine procedures. Ability to exercise judgment in selecting and computing machine settings to compensate for patient variances. Ability to produce quality images of delicate anatomical structures.
Certificate/License/Registration: Nuclear Medicine Technologist through the American Registry of Registered Technologists (ARRT) and/or the Nuclear Medicine Technologists Certification Board (NMTCB).
